RSF delegation arrives in Geneva for US-backed Sudan peace talks

In a significant step toward resolving the escalating Sudanese crisis on Tuesday, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on social media platform X that its delegation has arrived in Geneva in response to a U.S. invitation.

Geneva Peace Talks aims to address the worsening situation in Sudan, which has been exacerbated by the remnants of the old regime and elements within the leadership of the armed forces (SAF).

The RSF’s delegation’s arrival underscores the group’s commitment to peace and dialogue.

RSF says its primary objectives include reaching a nationwide cessation of hostilities, facilitating humanitarian aid delivery, and establishing a robust monitoring and verification mechanism to ensure the implementation of any agreements reached in Geneva.

The statement released on X underlined that the delegation’s presence in Geneva reflects a genuine desire to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and to engage positively with regional and international efforts to end the conflict and achieve lasting peace.

The Sudanese group said they anticipate constructive discussions that will not only facilitate humanitarian aid to affected populations but also explore effective mechanisms to protect civilians.

The RSF said they hope that the Armed Forces (SAF) will also respond to the invitation with an independent stance, free from the influence of extremist elements and remnants of the old regime.

Group added that this would pave the way for meaningful dialogue focused on the Sudanese people’s aspirations for recovery and freedom, aiming to establish a new democratic state based on equality and sustainable peace.
