Renovations underway in Nyala as TASIS builds administrative capital

The Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) has officially begun establishing the city of Nyala, capital of South Darfur state, as the administrative center of its newly formed parallel government, led by Prime Minister Mohamed Hassan al-Ta’aishi.

Local sources told Darfur24 that engineering teams have begun renovations on the former Ministry of Agriculture and Urban Planning building, located west of Nyala Teaching Hospital and adjacent to the Family Court. The building is being prepared to serve as the seat of the Council of Ministers.

Eyewitnesses reported construction materials being offloaded at the site under tight security measures imposed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who have set up roadblocks around Hotel Al-Mu’allim, where TASIS delegations are staying. Access roads to the area have been sealed from both the north and south.

A civil administration source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that several senior TASIS leaders arrived in Nyala over the past two weeks, with the most recent arriving five days ago via Nyala International Airport.

The TASIS alliance, declared in late July, brings together the RSF, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North under Abdelaziz al-Hilu, the Revolutionary Front, and a coalition of civilian and tribal leaders. The 15-member presidential council is chaired by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), with al-Hilu as vice president, and Ta’aishi appointed as prime minister.

This move marks a significant shift in Sudan’s political landscape, as TASIS consolidates power in Darfur while challenging the authority of the army-led government still based in Port Sudan.
