A purported meeting in Nairobi between Malik Agar, leader of the Sudan People’s Movement (SPLM), and figures from the Sudan Founding Alliance (known as “Tasis”) has stirred controversy in Sudan over the past two days.
Local media reported that Agar held talks in the Kenyan capital with Tasis representatives, a move some analysts framed as an attempt to distance himself from the Port Sudan SAF junta.
According to commentators, the discussions reportedly explored the SPLM’s potential alignment with the Sudan Founding Alliance and participation in a prospective peace government.
Activists and media figures close to the junta in Port Sudan have denied that any Nairobi meeting took place. Others, however, link Agar’s recent expressions of frustration over corruption and the growing influence of Islamist networks within the Port Sudan power structure and SAF leadership to what they view as concrete steps toward exiting the wartime camp centered in Port Sudan.
