Revolutionary Awakening Council faction formally joins TASIS

A faction of Sudan’s Revolutionary Awakening Council, led by Dr Musa al-Ghali Haran, has formally joined the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), signing the coalition’s founding charter and transitional constitution during a ceremony in Nyala, South Darfur.

The signing, held on October 20, marks another step in TASIS’s efforts to expand its political and organisational structures in areas under its control.

Local Sudanese media reported that the faction’s leadership endorsed the alliance’s political framework, formally committing itself to the coalition’s programme for restructuring Sudan’s institutions.

Huzayfa Abunoba, head of TASIS’s organisational committee, welcomed the signing, describing it as part of efforts to strengthen the alliance’s institutional foundations and broaden political participation.

The development reflects divisions within the Revolutionary Awakening Council, originally established by influential Darfur tribal leader Musa Hilal.

Hilal’s faction remains aligned with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) under General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. The signing by Musa al-Ghali’s faction does not indicate that Hilal or his supporters have changed allegiance.

Other factions associated with the council previously endorsed the TASIS charter in 2025, drawing objections from Hilal’s leadership, which disputed their authority to represent the wider organisation.

TASIS, established in February 2025, brings together political movements, armed groups and civilian representatives seeking to establish a new political order based on decentralisation, equal citizenship and institutional reform.
