RSF accuses SAF of foreign drone strikes on Darfur hospital, market

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) accused Sudan’s army of carrying out foreign-drone strikes in North Darfur that hit a hospital and a market, describing the attacks as violations of international humanitarian law.

In a statement, the RSF said a foreign drone struck Al-Zarq Hospital in the Al-Zarq area, destroying the facility and killing more than 64 civilians, including medical personnel. The RSF claimed the hospital was the only medical facility serving thousands of residents in the area.

The RSF also alleged the same drone targeted the main market in the Ghurair area during peak hours, killing “dozens” of civilians, including women and children, and setting the market ablaze. It said the final toll was still being assessed.

The statement condemned what it called deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, and criticized what it described as international silence over violence in Darfur and Kordofan.

The RSF urged the international community — including the Quartet and the United States — to issue an unequivocal condemnation and to support an immediate, independent international investigation. It also demanded accountability for those it alleged ordered the strikes from Port Sudan.

The RSF said it reserved the right to respond and would take “all necessary measures,” according to the statement.
