RSF arrests senior NCP leaders in major East Darfur operation

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have arrested more than 30 senior figures from Sudan’s dissolved National Congress Party (NCP) in what witnesses described as the largest operation of its kind in East Darfur since the war began.

Eyewitnesses in Adila said around 20 RSF combat vehicles moved into the town on Sunday evening, detaining former constitutional office holders, party leaders, and members of the NCP’s youth and student wings.

Those arrested include former commissioner Mohamed Mahmoud El-Sherif, former NCP deputy chairman Mohamed Ahmed Hamed, former MP Mohamed Mahmoud Hassan, and the party’s student sector head, Youssef El-Bishra.

Witnesses said the detainees were quickly transferred to locations outside the city. They also reported that RSF intelligence restricted internet access in Adila and deployed personnel to monitor communications.

An RSF commander told Darfur 24 the arrests targeted leaders accused of engaging in political activity and maintaining contact with NCP figures in Khartoum and Port Sudan.
