Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) say they overran General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) positions in Umm Samima, west of El Obeid, North Kordofan, on Sunday, killing “more than 470” soldiers and pro-SAF militiamen, capturing dozens of armoured vehicles and taking control of warehouses stocked with drones and other weapons. The casualty figure has not been independently verified and SAF has yet to comment.
In a statement, the RSF also accused SAF warplanes of bombing residential areas of Al-Fula with “barrel bombs,” alleging dozens of civilian deaths. The group called the strikes part of a pattern of ethnic-based attacks it says amount to crimes against humanity and urged international bodies to investigate.
The claims follow weeks of intense fighting around North Kordofan’s main highway and repeated RSF–SAF battles near El Obeid. Human-rights monitors have documented previous air-strikes on towns such as Abu Zabad but have not confirmed Sunday’s reported civilian toll.
International agencies have yet to respond to the RSF’s latest appeal for accountability.
