A deadly drone strike struck the Chadian border city of Tine on Wednesday, killing civilians and heightening tensions linked to Sudan’s ongoing conflict, according to statements issued on Thursday.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) accused elements of General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army, affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, of carrying out the attack and described it as an act of terrorism.
In its statement, the RSF said the strike violated Chad’s sovereignty and represented a dangerous cross-border escalation that could threaten regional stability and undermine international law.
“Our forces emphasize that this is not the first time drones have been used by this terrorist army to target Chadian territory, in repeated violation of the principles of good neighborliness and respect for state sovereignty,” the RSF statement said.
The group said that drones launched by Burhan’s army had previously targeted areas inside Chad, fuelling concerns that the conflict could spread beyond Sudan’s borders.
The RSF expressed condolences to the families of those killed and conveyed sympathy to the Chadian government led by Mahamat Idriss Déby following the reported civilian casualties.
The Forces reiterated its opposition to cross-border violence and terrorism, pledging solidarity with Chad in protecting national sovereignty and regional security.
