Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched two drone strikes Friday on General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) positions in White Nile state, local media reported.
The first strike hit a SAF checkpoint in Tandalti, about 200 km south of the capital, late in the afternoon, according to a SAF officer who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media.
An undetermined number of troops were injured, the officer said.
Hours later, a second unmanned aircraft targeted the SAF’ 18th Infantry Division headquarters in Kosti, the state’s largest city.
No casualties were reported, but residents said the blast rattled nearby neighborhoods. It was the fifth drone attack on the base since the RSF-SAF war erupted in April 2023.
RSF spokespeople did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and the SAF made no public statement.
The strikes underscore the widening reach of the RSF, which has expanded its use of armed drones in recent months while battling al-Burhan’s forces across central and western Sudan.
White Nile state lies just north of South Sudan and hosts tens of thousands of people displaced by the conflict.
Aid agencies warn that the escalating drone campaign threatens civilian corridors along the Nile River, a vital supply route for food and medicine. Negotiations aimed at ending the war have stalled since December.
