The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have installed their first civilian administration in North Darfur, selecting local leaders to run day‑to‑day affairs in the town of El Koma, 78 km north‑east of El Fasher, community sources said Saturday.
A delegation from the RSF‑aligned Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) met traditional chiefs and youth representatives on Friday and appointed Ahmed Mohamed Ismail Ahmed as administrator and Mubarak Mohamed Adam Saleh as executive director, according to civil‑society figures present at the talks.
Residents welcomed the step, saying a functioning local council could help restore health and education services disrupted by recent SAF air‑strikes. Volunteers noted that towns under RSF control elsewhere in Darfur, as well as in South Kordofan and Blue Nile, already operate similar structures.
North Darfur remains a patchwork of rival authorities: General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and allied Islamist groups still hold El Fasher and three surrounding localities, while the Sudan Liberation Movement of Abdel Wahid al‑Nur controls Tawila.
