The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a key player in Sudan’s ongoing conflict, has intensified its diplomatic efforts with the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) to rebuild the nation’s security sector.
A delegation led by Brigadier General Omar Hamdan met with DCAF’s head for Southern and Eastern Africa, Alexander Lorient, to discuss potential collaboration.
The RSF said in a statement on Monday that the group provided a detailed overview of the conflict, which began on April 15, 2023, and highlighted the country’s long history of internal strife.
The RSF emphasized the need to establish a new security sector that is professional, impartial, and focused on protecting Sudan and its citizens.
The delegation expressed interest in DCAF’s expertise in training, development, and capacity building.
They noted that the Sudanese security sector has suffered significant damage over the past three decades and requires a comprehensive approach to rebuild.
DCAF’s involvement could be crucial in helping Sudan establish a more effective and accountable security sector.
By providing technical assistance and training, the organization can contribute to the country’s long-term stability and development.
