RSF launches arrest sweep of SAF personnel in South Darfur

Residents and local sources in Nyala said Monday that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out a wide-ranging arrest campaign last Tuesday and Wednesday targeting members of the police and General al-Burhan’s army (SAF).

The wife of one detainee told Darfur24 that an RSF unit arrived at their home in Al-Salam neighborhood on Wednesday morning and took her husband to the military police headquarters downtown. She said her husband serves in the police and had registered his name with the RSF after the fall of the General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) garrison in Nyala.

Eyewitnesses and local sources said RSF units raided the homes of police and SAF personnel in the Karari, Railway, and Al-Wahda South neighborhoods on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, transferring some detainees to the military police and the Nyala Exchange (Bourse) building, and others to Daghara (Dagris) Prison.

Separately, two sources said the RSF detained 20 police officers linked to Port Sudan SAF junta from Mershing locality and several others from Beleil locality, moving them to Daghara Prison west of Nyala on Saturday and Sunday. None had been released as of press time.

An RSF military source told Darfur24 that members of the regular forces who previously registered their names had since left for El Fasher and other areas under the control of General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) in central and northern Sudan. According to the source, some of those soldiers were returned to Nyala after taking part in the El Fasher battles, despite pledging not to engage in any activity against the RSF while inside its areas of control.
