RSF leader Dagalo to meet ex-Sudanese PM Hamdok in Ethiopia

The Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces in Sudan, known as Taqaddum, is set to convene with Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Monday, January 1, 2024, according to a statement released by the coalition on Sunday.

The delegation from Taqaddum will be led by former Prime Minister and Taqaddum Chairman Abdallah Hamdok, aiming to address critical issues concerning the protection of civilians, facilitation of humanitarian aid delivery, and exploring pathways for a peaceful resolution to Sudan’s ongoing conflict.

Taqaddum leaders emphasized the meeting’s significance in initiating an intra-Sudanese process aimed at reinstating a civilian-led transition and setting the groundwork for forthcoming general elections.

Amidst mounting concerns over the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, Taqadum has persistently sought dialogue with Sudanese military leader al-Burhan and RSF leader Dagalo.

Despite the lack of response from al-Burhan, Taqadum has confirmed ongoing discussions with military authorities to organize a meeting between the concerned parties.

Expressing optimism, Taqaddum expressed hope that these dialogues would yield tangible actions to alleviate the suffering of Sudanese citizens and contribute to a peaceful settlement of the conflict that erupted on April 15.

Since mid-April, the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo have been engaged in a war that has resulted in more than 12,000 deaths and over 7 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
