Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leader, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, declared his forces would return to Khartoum “stronger than ever.”
Dagalo’s statement follows recent territorial shift in the capital.
In a recorded message released Sunday, Hemedti described recent RSF withdrawals in Omdurman as “strategic repositioning.”
Hemedti dismissed claims that the conflict was nearing its end, asserting, “This is just the beginning. We are determined to win.”
He vowed to “defeat them, reclaim Khartoum, Omdurman, Bahri, and all 18 states of Sudan.”
Furthermore, Hemedti explicitly ruled out any possibility of negotiations with the General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army, stating, “We will not engage in dialogue or agreements with them, only the gun will decide.”
These pronouncements come after the Burhan’s army announced regaining control of Khartoum, including its airport and security headquarters, for the first time since April 2023.
The conflict, ongoing since April 2023, has resulted in over 20,000 deaths and the displacement of 14 million people, according to UN and local sources, with some estimates placing the death toll much higher.
The international community continues to urge an end to the devastating war, warning of a looming humanitarian crisis as millions face famine.
The fighting has now extended to 13 of Sudan’s 18 states.
