The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have opened an “officer qualifying” programme to elevate enlisted personnel to commissioned ranks, citing set admission criteria, RSF officers told Darfur24.
An RSF captain, speaking on condition of anonymity, said registration is under way to shortlist soldiers who meet the requirements for the course, which leads to officer promotion. Eligibility includes holding a university degree, a record of discipline, and prior RSF service. Command has identified more than 1,000 candidates, he said.
Ahmed Hassan, one of those selected, said trainees have been gathered in Umm Siyala village north of Nyala from across the Darfur and Kordofan states for a 45-day course.
Earlier reports to Darfur24 said some RSF officers and soldiers were flown via Nyala International Airport for advanced training abroad. Sources added that the training drive aims to address indiscipline and criminality seen early in the war among some mobilised groups.
The RSF maintains control across East, Central and South Darfur and much of North Darfur, as well as wide areas of West and South Kordofan.
