RSF pledges civilian protection, safe corridors in El Fasher after capture

Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said Sunday it will protect civilians and open safe corridors in El Fasher after taking control of the city from what it described as the “Islamic Movement army and its militias.”

In a statement, the group said it would facilitate and secure humanitarian aid deliveries, assign the Federal Police to maintain security once the area is fully secured, and work to reopen markets, hospitals, water sources and other essential services.

The RSF said it would clear landmines, handle the dead in a manner that preserves dignity to enable returns, and treat prisoners in accordance with international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. The group framed the takeover as part of efforts to stabilize the city and restore normal life, while pledging “peace, justice and equality.”
