RSF says it hit ‘Islamic Movement Army’ column near Omdurman

The Rapid Support Forces said on Sunday that they carried out a military operation west of Omdurman targeting what they described as “a full convoy belonging to the Islamic Movement Army” in the Rahid al-Nuba area. The force said it seized military vehicles, weapons, ammunition and motorbikes during the operation.

According to the statement, the clashes caused “heavy losses” among the opposing side. The RSF said it pursued what it called “remnants of the Islamic Movement’s Daesh” to the outskirts of Omdurman, forcing them to retreat and abandon equipment. It was not immediately possible to independently verify the casualty figures or the claimed territorial gains.

The RSF added that the action forms part of what it calls a “comprehensive liberation campaign” aimed at eliminating groups it labels “terrorist” and ending what it describes as the “Islamic Movement’s stranglehold over the Sudanese people’s resources.” There was no immediate comment from the army or from figures associated with the “Islamic Movement.”

Islamic Movement is the Sudanese branch of the Muslim Brotherhood militant group.
