Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said on Thursday it had taken control of the Jargira area in North Darfur state following what it described as a short battle, claiming it had pushed out rival forces and was pursuing remaining pockets.
In a statement dated Jan. 15, 2026, the RSF said the operation was part of efforts to “secure” the area and hunt down hostile groups. The force alleged it had expelled elements it described as Islamist-linked troops and “mercenary” factions.
The RSF said opposing forces suffered heavy losses, including “hundreds” killed, and said it captured dozens of vehicles along with large quantities of weapons, ammunition and artillery.
The statement added that RSF units had set up military positions around the area to reinforce deployment and secure key sites, adding that the force was preparing to advance toward “new objectives.” The RSF also said it remained on high alert to respond to threats and continue operations.
