Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said Saturday they had seized control of the Ughru area near the strategic city of Damazin.
The fighting group said its forces carried out a precise operation, dismantling Islamist movement’s army and mercenaries positions and inflicting heavy losses in personnel and equipment.
Fighting between RSF and Sudanese Armed Forces and its allies has intensified around key regional hubs, deepening Sudan’s already severe humanitarian crisis.
The RSF said Ughru was fully secured and assured residents that it would work to restore public services and stability.
Military officials were not immediately available to verify the claim or provide casualty figures.
Independent verification remains difficult as heavy fighting disrupts communications and limits access to observers across the contested region.
