RSF seizes new areas in El Fasher amid escalating Sudan fighting

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Monday that they had seized new neighborhoods in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur. According to the RSF’s official Telegram channel, forces took control of Deim Salk, Al-Ziyadiya, and the Mellit transport station on the city’s northeastern axis.

The RSF said it also captured military equipment belonging to the General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army (SAF) and allied armed militias during its latest advances. El Fasher, the largest city in Darfur, has been under siege by the RSF since May 2024, worsening humanitarian conditions for residents.

Since late 2023, the RSF has taken control of all Darfur state capitals except El Fasher, which remains a key stronghold. Observers say capturing El Fasher would mark a decisive step in the RSF’s campaign to dominate Darfur entirely.
