RSF slams video depicting army personnel hanging body from vehicle

Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Friday released a statement strongly criticizing a video showing Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and individuals linked to the former regime hanging a deceased body, believed to be an RSF member, from a SAF military vehicle.

The video provides undeniable evidence of SAF’s disregard for global condemnation of their savage behavior, statement said.

RSF statement added that the army and its extremist allies continue committing severe crimes against prisoners of war and civilians. This is the second video to emerge in the last few weeks showing SAF members engaged in inhumane acts.

“Their disregard for human dignity was horrifically illustrated when they beheaded three young men and mutilated their bodies despite statements from the victims’ families indicating that their sons had no connections to any military groups,” statement added, referring to a previous incident from earlier this year.

Those responsible for ordering, planning and carrying out the atrocities will be held accountable, RSF said and called on the international community and human rights groups to condemn “these brutal acts against our citizens.”

The Sudanese group affirmed its commitment to delivering vital services to communities endangered by jihadists and militias.

The group added that it is committed to establishing a constitutional civilian-led state that aligns with the hopes of Sudanese people and it is dedicated to “forging a new future for Sudan, characterized by pride, freedom, justice, peace, and love.”

Sudan has been mired by fighting between the army, led by Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who is the head of the ruling Sovereign Council, and the RSF.

At least 13,900 people have been killed and more than eight million displaced in the conflict that started in April 2023, according to UN figures.

Several cease-fire agreements brokered by Saudi Arabia and US mediators have failed to end the violence.
