Rubio says Trump leads intensified US bid to halt Sudan’s war

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump is personally leading efforts to end Sudan’s war. Rubio noted that Trump has taken direct responsibility for shaping Washington’s approach, signalling heightened White House engagement in the long-running conflict.

Trump had pledged during the US–Saudi Investment Forum last November to work towards ending the war after Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman requested his intervention. Sudan publicly welcomed the joint Saudi-American push, describing it as a vital opportunity to steer the country away from further bloodshed.

The renewed momentum reflects rising international impatience with a conflict that has devastated communities and undermined regional stability. US officials say Washington aims to combine diplomatic pressure with coordinated Gulf support to bring the warring parties back to negotiations. Observers caution that the path to peace remains fraught, yet the latest high-level involvement has revived hopes for a political breakthrough.
