SAF airstrike hits civilian protest in east Nile, dozens feared dead

A Sudanese military aircraft (SAF) bombed a gathering of civilians in the Wad Abu Saleh area, located east of the Nile River on Friday, leaving an unknown number of casualties.

While official numbers are yet to be confirmed, early reports suggest the death toll could rise into the dozens.

Reportedly, the crowd had assembled to protest the presence of General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) at the Al-Jili refinery, a strategic oil installation in the region.

Tensions have been running high as the military’s positioning at the refinery has sparked fears of escalating violence amid the ongoing conflict between rival factions in Sudan.

Eyewitnesses reported chaos as the airstrike struck the crowd, with many fearing for the lives of friends and family members who had joined the protest.

Local sources have expressed growing concern about the indiscriminate targeting of civilian gatherings by SAF as the conflict drags on.

As the country remains gripped by violence, the attack has heightened tensions and drawn further international attention to Sudan’s worsening humanitarian crisis.
