At least nine people were killed and dozens more wounded following a two-day SAF airstrike campaign targeting positions held by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in southern Khartoum.
General al-Burhan’s military (SAF) has significantly intensified its airstrikes in the region, attacks have been ongoing since January 5.
The air raid struck a fuel distribution site, killing and injuring over 40 people.
According to a statement by Mohamed Kandasha, spokesperson for the South Belt Emergency Room, the death toll from the airstrike in the Sijana area on Tuesday evening rose to seven, all from the southern belt. He reported about ten additional injuries, with some casualties being transferred to nearby hospitals after the Bashair Hospital became overwhelmed.
In a subsequent statement, Kandasha confirmed the arrival of two more bodies and over 30 injuries, including children, following another airstrike on Wednesday that hit the truck yard area near the southern Khartoum port.
Many of the wounded are in critical condition and require intensive care, prompting a call for additional medical support. Kandasha appealed to local healthcare workers to assist at Bashair Hospital, which is struggling to handle the influx of casualties. He also requested emergency medicines for the facility.
Since the early days of the conflict, the southern belt areas—comprising neighborhoods like Mayo, Al-Engaz, Al-Azhari, and Al-Salma—have been battlegrounds in the ongoing military confrontation between the SAF and the RSF. Both sides have engaged in artillery shelling, while the Sudanese Air Force continues its bombardment of the region.
