The Revolutionary Resistance Committees in Omdurman’s Eighth District said General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) soldiers, working alongside armed robbery gangs, are carrying out systematic looting and intimidation across the district in daylight and at night, targeting residents for phones and cash amid an absence of effective law enforcement.
In a statement, the committees said the crimes violate constitutional rights and aim to impose a climate of fear by restricting residents’ freedom of movement. Hotspots cited include the southeast near the Tarek Abu Zaid Tekke, areas east of Al-No General Hospital, the former Eighth Market Square, and quieter streets and public facilities where groups locally known as “the Shafshafa” operate.
The committees urged residents to remain vigilant and called on youth in the Eighth District to organize to protect the neighborhood from what they described as a worsening security vacuum that threatens lives and property. They appealed to the leadership of the Karari Military Zone to rein in “unruly” SAF personnel and impose swift, deterrent penalties, while noting appreciation for any ongoing efforts to curb these abuses.
