SAF strike hits Christmas gathering

Air attacks linked to Sudan’s conflict have once again placed the targeting of civilians at the centre of growing concern, as violence continues to spread across multiple regions.

In South Kordofan, the SPLM North faction led by Abdelaziz al Hilu said SAF aircraft bombed a civilian gathering in the Biam Jald area of Delanj district while residents were celebrating Christmas. The attack reportedly killed 12 people and wounded 19 others, most of them women and children.

In a statement, the movement said SAF bears full responsibility for the strike and called on the international community to intervene urgently and launch independent investigations to hold those responsible accountable.

In a separate incident, nine people, including women and children, were killed on Friday and several others injured when a SAF drone carried out two strikes on different locations in West Darfur, according to preliminary information from local sources.

Witnesses said the drone hovered over the city of El Geneina for more than an hour before firing two missiles, explosions that were heard across several neighbourhoods.
