SAF strike targets East Darfur’s Ed Daein, hitting urban planning ministry

General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) carried out an airstrike on Wednesday against the Ministry of Urban Planning building in the southern part of Ed Daein, the capital of East Darfur state, residents and local media reported. The attack caused structural damage and wounded one civilian but resulted in no fatalities.

Residents told Darfur 24 they heard a loud explosion that echoed across the city’s southern neighbourhoods. The strike caused partial destruction to the targeted buildings and spread panic among residents.

A military source suggested the attack involved a missile fired from a warplane at long range, outside Ed Daein’s airspace—similar to the March strike that hit the state government’s secretariat.

The city, under Rapid Support Forces (RSF) control since late 2023, has been repeatedly targeted by SAF air raids. The last such incident in March struck the state government’s headquarters, while a 2024 airstrike hit Ed Daein’s main hospital, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens, including children and elderly, forcing the facility to shut down.
