SAF withdraws as RSF advances near Kadugli in South Kordofan

Fighting in Sudan’s South Kordofan state has intensified again, as rival forces continue to trade territory around the state capital, Kadugli.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said on Friday that it had seized the Brono area, about 30 kilometres west of Kadugli.

Field sources reported that RSF units, backed by fighters from Abdelaziz al-Hilu’s Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), launched an early-morning assault on SAF positions in Brono, north-west of the city.

The attack was preceded by artillery shelling and drone strikes, the sources said. SAF troops later withdrew from the area to regroup, in what the sources described as preparations for a possible counteroffensive.

RSF-aligned social media accounts circulated video footage showing RSF fighters inside Brono. In the clips, the combatants claim they are pushing towards Kadugli.
