Senior SPLM–Agar commander defects to TASIS alliance in Blue Nile

Maj. Gen. Hassan Adam al-Hassan, the second-in-command of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North faction led by Malik Agar (SPLM-N Agar), has joined the TASIS alliance, local sources confirmed on Thursday, in a move that comes amid escalating fighting in Blue Nile State.

Sources said the alliance has made territorial gains in several areas across the state in recent weeks, backed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and SPLM-N factions aligned with TASIS. The advances have coincided with reports of drone strikes by General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) targeting civilian areas.

Military sources added that RSF forces continue operations around El Obeid, as well as in South Kordofan and Blue Nile, as clashes expand across multiple fronts.

In a related development, the historical Kingdom of Fazughli in Blue Nile said that Hassan Adam al-Hassan had joined forces affiliated with SPLM-N leader Joseph Tuka and the RSF, describing the move as a rebellion against Malik Agar’s leadership.

Mak Yusuf Hussein Mak Hamida, a traditional leader, said in a statement that al-Hassan had arrived in the region under the 2020 Juba Peace Agreement, and that dissatisfaction with its implementation did not justify what he called “irresponsible behavior.”

He added that the defection was an individual act that does not represent the position of the Fazughli Kingdom, which reaffirmed its support for General al-Burhan’s SAF and other regular forces in what it described as the “Battle of Dignity.”
