Severe disease outbreaks threaten 200K children in Sudan

More than 200,000 people, including over 20,000 children, are facing a deepening humanitarian crisis in Sudan’s North Kordofan State, according to the Sudanese Doctors Network.

The network said severe shortages of food, medicine and clean water, combined with measles and cholera outbreaks, have left vulnerable communities struggling to survive.

The network reported more than 100 measles cases among children and 45 cholera infections, warning that limited medical resources are accelerating the health emergency.

It said hospitals in Taybeh Al-Zaatari and Umm Kridim, along with numerous health centres across the region, are operating without essential medicines and basic medical supplies.

The affected administrative areas include densely populated communities, with the network estimating the total number of people impacted now exceeds 200,000.

The organisation warned that continued restrictions on medical and food deliveries could push the crisis into an even darker chapter, increasing deaths, particularly among children and other vulnerable groups.

The network urged the United Nations, humanitarian organisations and health authorities to deliver medicines, vaccines, intravenous fluids, food and safe drinking water without delay to contain disease outbreaks and save civilian lives.
