Rapid Support Forces authorities have detained Yusuf Idris Yusuf, head of the civil administration in South Darfur, following several days of questioning over alleged financial irregularities and political activities opposed to the TASIS-led Peace Government, according to sources cited by Darfur24.
The sources said Idris was arrested last week and subjected to a series of investigations before initially being placed under house arrest.
He was later transferred to Korea Prison in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur.
According to the report, the allegations against him include financial violations linked to local revenue collection in South Darfur, as well as holding meetings and undertaking political activities considered hostile to the TASIS administration.
RSF officials reportedly informed traditional leaders and military commanders from the Fellata community, to which Idris belongs, about the measures taken against him, including the decision to detain him.
The RSF appointed Idris as head of South Darfur’s civil administration in March 2024 as part of efforts to establish civilian governing structures in areas under its control. Those administrations were tasked with overseeing executive and economic affairs and maintaining basic public services.
Neither the RSF nor the South Darfur civil administration had issued a public statement on the case at the time of publication.
