South Darfur launches three solar powered water stations

Authorities in South Darfur have announced the launch of three new solar powered water stations in the localities of Damso, Katila and Talas, in a step aimed at improving access to clean water across the state.

In a statement reported by media, the South Darfur State Water Authority said the new stations are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen water services in areas that have long suffered from chronic shortages.

Nyala city and several surrounding localities continue to face persistent water scarcity, particularly during the summer months. Officials said fluctuating fuel prices and repeated supply disruptions have raised the cost of operating diesel powered pumps, increasing the burden on residents.

The authority said the transition to solar powered systems is designed to provide a more sustainable and reliable source of water, reducing dependence on fuel and lowering operational costs.

It added that emergency response teams and health centres in Nyala have already begun using solar energy in several wells operated by the state water authority, helping supply Nyala Teaching Hospital and neighbourhoods in the city centre.
