South Darfur’s health authority has confirmed 13 new dengue fever cases from 19 suspected infections this week, as the outbreak continues to spread in and around Nyala.
First detected on October 21, the outbreak has affected Nyala and neighbouring Nyala North, with the latest cases reported in the densely populated Al-Sadd Al-Aali area.
Officials said total infections in Nyala North have reached 233, including one death.
Nyala South has recorded 80 cases, while single infections were confirmed in Al-Malm and Ad Al-Fursan.
Emergency teams have intensified response efforts, carrying out fogging operations and public awareness campaigns in several neighbourhoods, with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross and the humanitarian group Alite.
Dengue fever, transmitted by infected Aedes mosquitoes, has spread across several Sudanese states in recent months, further straining fragile health systems.
Health authorities urged residents to remove stagnant water and seek medical care if symptoms appear.
