South Sudan officials inspect Port Sudan oil terminals amid talks

A South Sudanese delegation visited eastern Sudan this week to assess oil export operations and discuss trade flows with energy companies. The delegation included President Salva Kiir’s security adviser Tut Galwak, Port Sudan authorities, petroleum officials, and technical specialists.

Sudan’s junta Ministry of Energy said the team toured the Bashayer 1 and 2 oil export terminals in Port Sudan. Officials met representatives from PETCO and BAPCO to review crude export procedures and ensure uninterrupted operational flows.

Energy Minister Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim said Sudan is technically prepared to operate and maintain petroleum facilities serving both countries. He described the visit as part of ongoing coordination on oil operations, reflecting long-standing ties and shared economic interests.

Separately, a South Sudanese technical team was deployed to the Heglig oil area in West Kordofan under a tripartite agreement. The arrangement followed the army’s withdrawal after Rapid Support Forces took control of the field earlier this year. Heglig hosts about 75 oil wells and a central processing facility handling crude from West Kordofan and South Sudan.
