South Sudan reports 334 deaths due to ongoing cholera outbreak

The death toll from the ongoing cholera outbreak in South Sudan has tragically risen to 334, according to a statement from the South Sudan Ministry of Health.

The statement revealed that the cholera outbreak has spread across seven of the country’s ten states.

Since October, the number of cholera cases has reached 19,320.

The South Sudanese government, in collaboration with the United Nations, launched a vaccination program in December 2024 to combat the escalating number of cases.

Neighboring Sudan, which is grappling with a devastating civil war, also faces a severe cholera outbreak, with over 49,000 cases reported.

An estimated 880,000 individuals have fled the conflict in Sudan and sought refuge in South Sudan, further straining the already fragile health system.
