SPLM‑North hails TASIS govt as final nail in Islamists’ coffin

Anas Adam, a senior member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement‑North (SPLM‑North), said on Monday that the announcement of the Sudan Founding Alliance’s Transitional Peace Government and the selection of its prime minister represent a “historical turning point” and deliver the “final nail in the coffin” of the Islamist movement and the old Port Sudan power structure.

Adam told reporters the bold move offers a lifeline to Sudan’s marginalized communities, breaking the grip of what he called “the old Sudan” and its opportunistic elites. He said the formation of the new government tests the viability of the former regime’s project and demands a full intellectual and institutional break from the centralized state of the past.

“This is a defining moment that tolerates no hesitation or compromise,” he said, urging all Sudanese to rally behind the Transitional Government to build a new state founded on justice, equal citizenship and voluntary unity.

He added that the step marks the beginning of a foundational process aimed at overhauling traditional governance and restructuring the state from its roots.
