The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, led by Abdelaziz al Hilu, has accused SAF of killing 13 civilians and wounding 17 others in an air strike on a market in South Kordofan.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the group said the bombing targeted Um Jemeina market in the Al Sunut locality, Payam Kasha, on Tuesday. It claimed the air raid killed dozens of civilians and left many others injured, some of them seriously.
The movement condemned what it described as repeated attacks by an “terrorist army” against unarmed civilians, saying such acts constitute a clear violation of international humanitarian law and amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
It added that the targeting of civilian areas where there were no military confrontations could only be interpreted as deliberate and systematic.
According to the statement, most of those killed were children, women, and elderly people. The group called on the United Nations and human rights organisations to condemn what it described as the systematic targeting of civilians.
It also demanded an urgent and independent international investigation, and accountability for those responsible for issuing and carrying out the bombing orders.
