Sudan: 4,000 held in Al-Jazeera for RSF links, activists decry campaign

The SAF junta-controlled governor of Sudan’s Al-Jazeera state announced the arrest of 4,000 citizens accused of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as activists denounced the move as racist and politically motivated.

Governor Al-Tahir Ibrahim said some of those detained had given judicial confessions detailing acts of sabotage and direct logistical support for the RSF. He warned that his government would not tolerate any threats to the state’s security or stability.

Activists condemned the arrests as part of a broader campaign by SAF junta in Port Sudan and Al-Jazeera state to target citizens based on ethnic and regional affiliations.

They accused SAF junta of using the charges to carry out arbitrary detentions and said there are no credible courts to ensure fair trials.

They also said judges loyal to the former ruling National Congress Party (NCP) are prosecuting the accused on purely political grounds, without any legal or moral justification.
