Sudan’s military has been accused of carrying out an airstrike that killed five children from the same family in North Kordofan, as separate aerial attacks across the region reportedly left two other civilians dead, including another child.

The attacks, reported on October 14 and 15, killed at least seven civilians, including six children, and wounded several others, according to the Emergency Lawyers rights group and local Sudanese media.

Emergency Lawyers said on Thursday that an Antonov aircraft belonging to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) bombed a residential property in Abu Zaima, North Kordofan, killing five children and injuring their mother.

The strike hit the home of Jadallah Mohamed Jadallah, destroying several surrounding houses and causing extensive damage to civilian property.

The rights group condemned the attack, accusing the Sudanese military of deliberately endangering civilian lives in an area where it said there were no military installations or troop deployments.

Emergency Lawyers described the bombardment as a violation of international humanitarian law and demanded accountability for those responsible, including investigations into attacks on civilians.

In neighbouring West Kordofan, separate airstrikes killed two more civilians, including a child, and damaged vehicles transporting food supplies, according to local Sudanese media.

Sources cited by Darfur24 said an airstrike struck Foga, in Al-Nuhud locality, on Wednesday, killing Ali Yasser Ali and wounding two others.

The bombardment also damaged civilian trucks carrying food and commercial goods.

Another strike targeted the market in Al-Jinanah village, west of Wad Banda, killing a child identified as Al-Jaili Ali Hamid and injuring several others.

Residents reported widespread damage to vehicles and civilian property following the attack.

Responsibility for the two West Kordofan strikes has not been independently established.

Meanwhile, local sources reported continued aerial bombardment around Abu Zaima, Umm Badr and other areas of North Kordofan, raising concerns about further civilian casualties.

The attacks come amid escalating fighting between Sudan’s military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) across Kordofan, where both sides have been conducting operations to secure strategically important territory.

The Sudanese army has faced repeated allegations of carrying out aerial attacks that have killed civilians in contested areas, prompting demands from rights organisations for investigations and accountability.

The exact circumstances surrounding the latest attacks and the reported casualty figures could not be independently verified.

Sudan’s war, which erupted in April 2023, has devastated large parts of the country, displaced millions and left civilians increasingly exposed to aerial bombardment, hunger and the destruction of essential infrastructure.
