At least eight civilians were killed and more than 30 others injured after a military vehicle belonging to the Joint Forces allied with Sudan’s army ploughed into a crowded transport stop in Omdurman, Khartoum state, on Saturday.

Field sources told Darfur24 on October 24 that a speeding Toyota Land Cruiser operated by the Joint Forces struck civilians waiting for public transport near the Jibin Jibin vegetable market.

The vehicle also damaged a passenger minibus during the incident, which witnesses said caused panic among residents and commuters in the busy market area.

According to the sources, four people died at the scene, while dozens of injured civilians were rushed to Al-Nao Hospital in Omdurman for emergency treatment.

A medical source later confirmed to Darfur24 that the death toll had risen to eight, with more than 30 others injured.

The source described chaotic conditions at the hospital’s emergency department, where an influx of casualties overwhelmed available capacity, forcing some patients to lie on the floor because of a shortage of beds.

Witnesses alleged that the military vehicle attempted to flee the scene following the incident but was intercepted and detained by security personnel stationed near the vegetable market.

Residents accused members of the army-allied Joint Forces of routinely driving recklessly through densely populated urban areas, putting civilian lives at risk.

They called on authorities to take immediate measures to prevent similar incidents and hold those responsible accountable.

The Joint Forces, a coalition of armed groups fighting alongside Sudan’s military, have maintained a presence in several areas under army control during the country’s ongoing conflict.

There was no immediate official statement from the Joint Forces or Sudanese military authorities regarding the incident, and it remained unclear whether an investigation had been launched.
