Sudan civil war leaves over 11,000 people missing: Red Cross

More than 11,000 people have gone missing since Sudan’s civil war began in April 2023, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The organisation says the true figure is likely higher due to insecurity and limited access to affected areas.

Thousands of displaced families continue searching for missing relatives, including more than 600 women whose disappearances have left families shattered.

Aid workers say stigma and fears of dishonour prevent many families from reporting missing female relatives.

Families also face extortion by scammers demanding ransom payments, while many detainees are believed to have been tortured or died in unofficial detention centres.

With thousands still unaccounted for, the conflict continues to deepen Sudan’s humanitarian crisis.
