Sudan’s Doctors Network has voiced deep concern over remarks attributed to the SAF chief suggesting that medical personnel are party to the conflict and have acted as sources of information.
In a statement, the network said such comments contradict the humanitarian mission of doctors and place hundreds of healthcare workers at serious risk, particularly as the war continues with no end in sight.
The group urged all military actors not to involve medical professionals in the ongoing conflict, stressing that healthcare workers — like other Sudanese civilians — have already paid a heavy price during the war.
It added that doctors across Sudan continue to carry out their humanitarian duties under extremely challenging conditions, including severe shortages of supplies and deteriorating security.
The network called for urgent protection of medical staff and the provision of a safe environment to ensure the continuation of life-saving health services.
It also renewed its appreciation for medical personnel working across the country, praising their sacrifices and efforts in the face of ongoing hardship.
