A Sudanese medical group warned Tuesday of an impending humanitarian disaster amid health sector collapse. Hospitals are running out of essential drugs, including antibiotics, emergency supplies, and medicines for chronic illnesses.
Medical staff are overwhelmed by rising injuries and illnesses as ongoing fighting prevents proper treatment and care across the city. “This situation threatens an imminent humanitarian catastrophe,” the Sudan Doctors Network said, calling for immediate international and regional intervention.
The network urged aid delivery through safe humanitarian corridors, stressing that thousands of residents face potential death without urgent supplies. “Saving the lives of civilians in El-Fasher is an urgent priority that cannot be delayed,” it said, calling for swift coordination.
Authorities are urged to work with international organizations to secure emergency aid, including food, medical resources, and protective measures for hospitals. General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and RSF have been fighting since April 2023, leaving more than 20,000 dead and displacing 14 million, according to UN estimates.
Research from US universities, however, suggests the true death toll may be closer to 130,000, reflecting the conflict’s brutal scale and intensity.
