Sudan’s Education Ministry announced on Thursday that 69.9% of students passed the national secondary school certificate examinations, with more than 388,000 candidates successfully completing the exams.
According to figures released at a press conference in Khartoum, 570,252 students registered for the examinations, while 558,837 actually sat them. A total of 11,415 students were absent.
The ministry said 388,738 students passed, while 170,099 failed.
The examinations were held at 3,333 centres inside and outside Sudan, including 84 centres in 19 foreign countries.
Students in the academic stream accounted for around 98% of all candidates who sat the exams. The pass rate for that section stood at 69.5%.
Of 558,880 students registered in the academic stream, 547,794 sat the examinations. The ministry said 380,985 passed, 166,809 failed and 11,086 were absent.
Taqwa Al-Nour Mohammed Al-Nour, who sat the examinations at the Al-Sadaqa centre in Cairo, ranked first in the academic section with a score of 97.7%.
Isra Saeed Ahmed Saeed from Kassala state and Menna Hisham Ismail from Al-Sadaqa schools in Cairo shared second place, each scoring 97.6%.
Female students recorded a higher pass rate than male students, with 70.5% of girls passing compared with 67.9% of boys.
The Education Ministry also announced that the next Sudanese secondary school certificate examinations will be held in April 2027.
