Sudan Shield forces leader Kikal accused of violations in Al-Jazeera

Sudan’s Kanabi Conference has accused General al-Burhan’s SAF allied militia, Sudan Shield Forces, led by Abu Aqila Kikal, of preventing residents in the Al-Jazeera (Gezira) region’s Kombo Al-Salam Al-Hadiba area from conducting burials for over 10 deceased individuals.

The delay has resulted in the bodies decomposing and being scavenged by stray dogs, creating a distressing and inhumane scene.

The incident highlights the dire humanitarian conditions faced by residents, whose dignity and basic rights are being flagrantly violated, the Kanabi Conference said in a statement reported by Darfur24.

Residents in Kanabi settlements—communities located around the irrigation canals of the Al-Jazeera agricultural project—have reported a series of abuses.

The Kanabi Conference stated that Sudan Shield Forces barred residents from returning to their homes in Kombo Al-Salam Al-Hadiba, even for the purpose of burying the deceased. The situation has exacerbated insecurity in the region, leaving residents vulnerable and unable to resume normal life.

Human Rights Concerns

The Kanabi Conference condemned the actions of armed groups associated with Sudan Shield Forces as “inhumane” and called for immediate intervention to halt these violations. “The refusal to allow burials is unacceptable and deeply troubling,” the statement read, emphasizing the urgent need for action to uphold human rights.

The group called for the immediate burial of the bodies, the protection of civilians, and accountability for those responsible for the violations. It also demanded an end to all hostile actions targeting Kanabi residents, underscoring the need for restoring safety and dignity in the region.

Documentation of Abuses

Human rights organizations have documented videos showing violations allegedly carried out by SAF and allied groups. The footage reportedly includes brutal killings of civilians in Wad Madani, the capital of Al-Jazeera State, as well as in other Kanabi settlements.

The Kanabi Conference emphasized the importance of establishing a fact-finding committee to ensure justice for victims and the restoration of rule of law in affected areas.

The ongoing situation calls for urgent attention from Sudanese authorities and international human rights organizations to address the violations and prevent further escalation of the crisis.
