Sudan violence forces 2,600 civilians to flee North Kordofan

Rising insecurity has driven about 2,600 civilians from Abu Haraz and Kazgil in Sudan’s North Kordofan within two days, authorities said.

The International Organization for Migration reported the displacement followed rapidly deteriorating conditions between April 29 and April 30 in both towns.

Families fled under mounting fear, leaving homes behind as uncertainty deepened across communities already strained by months of persistent violence.

Most displaced civilians have sought refuge in the Sheikan district, where resources remain limited and humanitarian needs continue to grow.

“The situation remains highly tense and volatile,” the organisation warned, signalling the risk of further sudden population movements.

Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023, as fighting erupted between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and Rapid Support Forces.

Tens of thousands have been killed, while approximately 13 million people have been displaced in a sweeping humanitarian crisis.

Large parts of the country now edge towards famine, as aid access remains constrained and basic services continue to collapse.

The latest displacement reflects a deepening pattern, where each flare of violence pushes civilians further into uncertainty and fragile safety.
