Sudan’s military chief Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has reportedly suffered a nervous breakdown, losing his speech and memory, unnamed high ranking military sources said on Friday.
Sources, who chose to remain anonymous, also revealed that all visits and interviews with al-Burhan had been promptly cancelled.
There was no information on the cause of al-Burhan’s alleged nervous breakdown, but some analysts on social media drew attention to army’s retreat from Central Sudan and the fall of Wad Madina to Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the regional victory tour RSF leader Dagalo has been on since early this week.
RSF leader Dagalo is on a regional tour visiting several allied and amicable nations aimed at ending the conflict in Sudan.
He met with Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday and Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed on Thursday.
Since mid-April, the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo have been engaged in a war that has resulted in more than 12,000 deaths and over 7 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
