Sudanese army denies claims of Wad Madani takeover

The spokesperson for the Sudanese army has denied claims suggesting the retaking of Wad Madani, the capital of Al-Jazirah State.

Speculation had been rife due to online sources and activist videos.

Brigadier General Nabil Abdallah dismissed the reports, stating on Thursday, “There is no truth to the reports circulating about Madani’s liberation.”

Numerous sources had asserted since Wednesday that the army had taken control of Wad Madani and entered Al-Jazira State from multiple directions.

Online activists shared videos supposedly depicting army celebrations following a alleged defeat of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) near the city.

Additional claims emerged of army drones destroying key RSF outposts in villages north of Al-Jazirah State, bordering Khartoum.

The RSF had seized control of Wad Madani in December, extending their influence southward to the borders of Sinnar State.

Simultaneously, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereign Council and army commander-in-chief, held discussions on Thursday with Al-Jazira State Governor Al-Khair Ibrahim. The meeting addressed security, services, and healthcare in the region.
