Sudanese child killed in Al-Samrab war remnant blast in Khartoum

A child has been killed and another injured after a war remnant explosion in Al-Samrab, north Khartoum Bahri, local sources reported.

Sources said eight-year-old Mohab Mustafa died at the scene when the object he and another child were carrying exploded suddenly.

Eyewitnesses said the explosion struck while the children were playing, injuring the second child, who was taken to a nearby medical centre.

United Nations data indicates seven areas in Khartoum remain contaminated with mines and war remnants, with similar incidents recorded recently.

Maritime Observatory for Human Rights said war remnants have become a daily threat to residents, documenting incidents including a landmine in Al-Safiya.

Observers said the Samrab incident, which killed one child and injured another, reflects growing risks to civilians, especially children handling unidentified objects.

The Observatory called for urgent intervention by mine clearance teams to clear residential areas and expand awareness campaigns on war remnants dangers.

He also held military parties responsible for spreading these remnants, stressing civilian protection is a legal obligation under international humanitarian law.
