Sudanese community in UAE praises Emirati support amid tensions

Sudanese community leaders in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have expressed their appreciation for a recent statement from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which reaffirmed the country’s ongoing support for Sudan and its Sudanese residents. The statement was seen as a message of reassurance and solidarity in response to the tensions triggered by a decision from the Port Sudan Authority.

Mohamed Baha’a El-Din, head of the Sudanese Community in Abu Dhabi, emphasized that the UAE has always been, and will continue to be, the primary destination for Sudanese nationals. He highlighted the UAE’s facilitation of residency and its role as a safe, supportive environment. El-Din said that the statement brought comfort to the Sudanese people, who consider the UAE a second home.

Ahmed Hassan, head of the Sudanese Social Club in Al Ain, also noted the UAE’s consistent openness to Sudanese citizens, particularly since the outbreak of the war in Sudan. He acknowledged the welcoming atmosphere in the UAE and its continued support for Sudanese nationals during the ongoing conflict, with many seeking refuge in the country.

Professor Abu Bakr Mubarak Abdullah expressed concern over the consequences of the statements made by the Port Sudan Authority. He called for a return to reason and urged efforts to preserve the strong fraternal relations between the two nations. Abdullah praised the UAE for its extensive support, which has benefitted thousands of Sudanese families.

Awad Rahma, head of the Sudanese Community in Ajman, emphasized that the UAE’s approach toward Sudan is deeply rooted in its humanitarian values. He highlighted the UAE’s initiatives, launched since the onset of the war, that have provided food, education, medical care, and shelter to tens of thousands of Sudanese nationals.

Community leaders agreed that Emirati-Sudanese relations are long-standing and that the Sudanese community is integrated into a cohesive and stable Emirati society. They reiterated their gratitude to the UAE leadership for its unwavering efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.
